# How do I submit a URL that is too long into ...?

Sometimes you find that you need to save an extremely long link, like the one below, into a program that doesn’t allow links that long. For example Social Sciences Computing’s Classweb allows links to be 255 characters long, but the link below from UC-elinks is 384 characters long.

While waiting for the programmer to consider your request to allow longer links.

Another option is [http://tinyurl.com](http://tinyurl.com). That free service converted the huge link below into a much shorter one.

**Before**
[Extremely long URL from UC eLinks for specific article a professor wanted students to read](http://ucelinks.cdlib.org:8888/sfx_local?sid=CAPTURE:CAPTURE&month=9&issn=0039%2D3606&issue=3&atitle=Federalism%20and%20Low%2DMaintenance%20Constituencies%3A%20Territorial%20Dimensions%20of%20Economic%20Reform%20in%20Argentina%2E&day=22&title=Studies%20in%20comparative%20international%20development&volume=35&genre=article&date=2000&spage=32&aulast=Gibson&aufirst=Edward%20L.&auinit=E)

**After**
