What is Yahoo Pipes?

“Pipes is a free online service that lets you remix popular feed types and create data mashups using a visual editor.  I saw this on the web for librarians (Web4Lib list) Feb. 11, 2007, but I haven’t tried building anything with it yet. The Librarians on the list seemed to quickly figure out the tools and make some mashups. Someone mentioned that it’s still in beta.
