# How to not set a file/application association in OS/X?

In OS/X does anyone know how to **not** set a file/application association? I have both FileMaker and Final Cut Pro. If I export as <span class="caps">XML</span> from FileMaker, the OS sees it as a Final Cut Pro document and automatically opens Final Cut Pro and read the doc in Final Cut Pro.

Yes, I can use **Get Info** to change the association via “Always Open with…” but I want to set this to “None.” I’d rather <span class="caps">XML</span> docs (because of the variety of applications that may want to read them) have no association and let me manually choose the application I want to open the file in. Does anyone know how?

**Solution**

If you install RCDefaultApp, it offers the ability to remove all
applications associations from a particular type of file:
