How to create a special case (local) login in Moodle
Special case (local) accounts must be created for those users who need access to a private Moodle site and don’t have a UCLA Common Logon ID. (Cf. How do I know if I have a UCLA Common Logon ID?)
Steps to create a special case account:
- Log in as administrator to the Moodle system.
- Site Administration
- Users
- Accounts
- Add a new user
- In the “Edit profile
screen”:screen:” - Username: assign the username. Make it different from what an eventual UCLA Common Logon ID would be!
- Choose an authentication method: Must be “Manual accounts only”
- New password: assign a password
- Enter a First Name, Surname and Email address.
- Email activated: Make sure it’s “This email address is enabled”.
- The rest of the settings are optional, and the user can modify them later if need be.
- Click “Update profile” to save the new account.
- Email the new account info to the user who needs it and ask him/her to log in and verify that s/he can log in.
- To also add this new account to an existing Moodle site, see In Moodle how do I add participants to a site?
