How to create a special case (local) login in Moodle

Special case (local) accounts must be created for those users who need access to a private Moodle site and don’t have a UCLA Common Logon ID. (Cf. How do I know if I have a UCLA Common Logon ID?)

Steps to create a specialUCLA caseLogon account:ID:

  1. LogPoint your browser to http://ccle.ucla.edu.
  2. Choose logon in asthe administratorfar toupper-right of the Moodle system.screen.
  3. SiteClick Administrationthe UCLA logon button
  4. Users
  5. Accounts
  6. Add aA new userwindow appears with three boxes on the right titled: Sign In, Useful Links and Help for…
  7. In the “EditUseful profileLinks screen:”
  8. box,
  9. Username:select assignSign the username. Make it different from what an eventual UCLA Common Logon ID would be!
  10. Choose an authentication method: Must be “Manual accounts only”
  11. New password: assign a password
  12. Enter a First Name, Surname and Email address.
  13. Email address: Make it different from what they will useup for their official UCLA email address on URSA and/or the UCLA campus directory (since this is what theira UCLA Logon ID will use).
  14. Email
activated: Make sure it’s “This email address is enabled”.
  • The rest of the settings are optional, and the user can modify them later if need be.
  • Click “Update profile” to save the new account.
  • Email the new account info to the user who needs it and ask him/her to log in and verify that s/he can log in.
