How to put Video Furnace movies on a CCLE/Moodle site
The aim of this article is to instruct you about what to do if you are provided the web links to Video Furnace material from OID (Office of Instructional Devevelopment.
The option to use OID’s Video Furnace service is a choice you make when you wish to make an entire film (or the entirety of video material on videotape or DVD) available online for your students. The first step is to contact OID’s Instructional Media Library directly at:
http://www.oid.ucla.edu/units/imlab/faq/vf/index.html
OR (310) 825-0755
OR medialab@ucla.edu
OR 46 Powell Library
If your are provided (usually via email) with a web link (i.e., a URL) for a film you arranged to have digitized using the Video Furnace service, follow these steps to put the link on your CCLE/Moodle course website:
1.
- Login to your CCLE/Moodle course site and click the “Turn Editing On” button in the top right corner.

2.
- Choose whichever section in the middle of the page you’d like to display the Video Furnace link, and use the “Add a resource” pull-down menu to select “link to a file or web page.”

3.
- On the page displayed next, provide a title for the Video Furnace link (usually the title of the film) and type or paste the URL of the link in the field labeled “Location.”

4.
- Save your changes at the bottom.
(NOTE: Moodle will usually immediately display whatever content you added after you click “Save Changes,” so you’ll have to use your browser’s navigation buttons to go back to the course site’s main page.)5. - You may also want to add a label or create a text or HTML page near this link in order to inform students that they’ll need to have the VPN turned on or their browser configured to use UCLA’s proxy server in order watch Video Furnace content off campus.
