Backup/Restore a Moodle course site; Import from one Moodle site to another

If you would like to reuse resources or activities from another course you’ve taught or are teaching, you can use the IMPORT function in the Administration block.

The first screen requires you to either choose a course to import from or to select groups you’ve created elsewhere to import.

If you’re importing resources or activities from another course, use the pull-down menu (as seen below) to select that course.

Once you’ve done so, you may select from a list the individual resources or activities you wish to import or all of them (default mode).

Click the “Continue” button at the bottom of the page. A confirmation page will appear, and you’ll need to click “Continue” at the bottom of the page once again. Follow the instructions at the bottom of the subsequent page to finish the process and return to your new course web site, where you will finally see all the imported resources and activities (there are several pages to navigate through here, but usually the only choices at the bottom of the page are “continue” or “cancel”).

THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXPLANATION OF THE BACKUP AND RESTORE FEATURES ALONG WITH THE IMPORT FUNCTION. AT THIS TIME, HOWEVER, THE BACKUP AND RESTORE FEATURES ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY (Moodle ver. 1.8). PLEASE USE THE IMPORT FUNCTION EXPLAINED ABOVE FOR THE TIME BEING. -April 4, 2008
