GIMP Resources

GIMP is an open source alternative to image editors like Photoshop and Fireworks. GIMP began originally as a Linux photo editor, but due to its powerful abilities and relative ease of use, it was quickly ported to more popular platforms like Windows and MacOS. Although Adobe Photoshop is by far the most popular image editor, it comes at a price. GIMP offers a similar featureset as Photoshop with the added virtue of being open source. This has several advantages, the most obvious being that GIMP is completely free since it is licenced under the GPL (General Public License). In addition, there is no need to wait for new versions of software for new functionality: because the source is public, GIMP is constantly being improved, and new features are added everyday. To find out more information, or to try GIMP yourself, go to the project homepage at www.gimp.org

For those who are Photoshop inclined and don’t want to go through learning a whole new program, a programmer named Scott Moschella has created a conversion pack for GIMP called GIMPShop which mimics the Photoshop interface in GIMP.
